WE are coming up on our two-year anniversary, and as I'm indulging in a glass of wine at 10:30pm, I'm reflecting on the many things that have happened over the course of the last two years. So many changes have taken place. Besides the move out of The Yard and into our own facility, there have been so many successes to recount, but also many challenges. Nothing comes without a price, and as I scan our ZenPlanner platform I see names from the very first day, and don't see names of others I thought would still be here with us.
Why did we start Next Wave? Was it a business venture from the very beginning? We started CrossFit Next Wave because we wanted to help people. Simple as that. Bethany and I saw the great changes that CrossFit made to our health and fitness, and after our personal training experience, it was a relief to be able to build a true community of like-minded people. Although I was an entrepreneur, I went into this with the drive to help others first, and I know Bethany did the same.
I still remember our grand opening event at The Yard, and many of the faces we still see today. I recall my first introduction to Coach Dave Joseforsky (our Programming Director), and I especially recall the hours spent trying to make the roll-up door close all the way after it jammed post-party. I know Kevin Sablad still remembers that too! Thank you Kevin for helping Norb and I stay cool after a hard days work. What a journey it has been.
With growth comes great responsibility
Today we are a full-fledged fitness enterprise. We offer several core services - CrossFit, Bootcamp SHRED, Yoga, and Personal Training. We have world-class coaches and trainers, and we offer workshops to enhance skills. We started a hybrid-style running club (The Venture Team) with two professional runners, and we are now considering adding Zumba. Yeah, I said it, Zumba!
But this was not in the plan at the beginning.
We started to help people. If someone asked us what we are most proud of in building Next Wave Athletics the answer is simple, and I know will always be the same. We are most proud of our members and their accomplishments. We are most proud of being able to be a part of such an important part of their life - their health and fitness. We have developed friendships and have been a part of bringing people together to build the strong community we imagined. We've touched the lives of many and we have been inspired by the stories and the journey that many of our athletes undertake to better their lives and the lives of others.
We have seen relationships grow, beautiful babies being born and families thriving, and friends moving into our community to be closer to the gym and friends. While we celebrate PRs and performance, healthy individuals and families are what connect us and allow us to live a fulfilling life. That is why we started.
Bethany and I are still learning from you. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives.
Here's to many more years enjoying this journey with all of you,
John and Bethany
